This is a good time for Descenders, if the game is any good, that is. So is it? As a downhill mountain biker myself, I wondered if they could possibly replicate the thrill of hitting a perfect line, pondered whether the controls could even be done in a way that felt right. Could they have possibly achieved these challenging goals? I can tell you they have. Descenders is an incredible game with fun around every corner. And there are lots of corners here. As you progress through five unique zones with larger and tougher obstacles than the last, you become immersed in this world where all that matters is that next huge backflip or snappy tweaked 360, just craving your next perfect run. For a downhill mountain biker like myself, it feels like home, in a digital sort of way. But you don't have to be one in order to enjoy Descenders. Just like the generations of kids who grew up on games like Tony Hawk and Skate, you can enjoy it if you've never felt the physical and emotional agony of crashing out of that last trick in a complex string of insane things no human should really be doing on a set of wheels. No, Descenders is for everyone. So stop reading this over-the-top review that doesn't actually offer any specific details about the game and just buy it already, because this rather seasoned rider has just told you to, and after all, he would know.. Imagine the world-map concepts of FTL, but you move through the world on a bike one downhill stage at a time.. Phenomenal Game. To start off I would like to mention I've spent years downhill mountain biking to anybody else in the same shoes wondering about this game.Gameplay: Instantly I felt full control over the bike, inertia and looseness. You feel a bit sloppy at first, but you'll pick it up, just like riding a bike. The game features a rogue-like progression through a "season". You only get so much health before your season ends and you start over. If you complete the boss "jump" level of its respective area you move on to the next environment(level). You need to do this three times total to unlock the next environment permanently creating a really nice paced progression. There is an open area for stunts featured as a lobby in between gameplay modes. 5\/5 Level Design: Procedural level keep things fresh and don't allow for speedrunning in multiplayer also keeping things fair. Starting with the first area things are fairly mellow, but a great introduction into controlling your bike both downhill scrubbing speed off carefully with burms or getting the perfect launches into the air and landing like a boss. As you make it to the second area forward the difficulty curve steepens (pun intended). Yet feels like a fully welcomed challenge as you are now learning how to slow your bike down from intense inclines to loose corners making you powerslide to the next setup. 5\/5Diversity: Anything from bike, t-shirts or glove skins to a chicken helmet. You can customise pretty much anything, adding a lot of replay-ability itself. As you move through your season you get to choose from a selection of different tracks depending on your taste in downhill, stunts or a mellow burmed race. You can even end up being lucky enough to attempt a sponsor race giving you off-road, downhill or stunt specialisations. 5\/5Soundtrack: Absolutely amazing drum and bass soundtrack that fits the game's fast paced game play. It also becomes a progression on it's own as the soundtrack will progress to a new set list every time you make it to a new environment. Keeping things fresh yet familiar to each respective environment. 5\/5Graphics: Nothing groundbreaking, but it looks great even at 4K resolution and the quality is to a standard that it doesn't break immersion whatsoever. Experienced zero frame-drops period. Which is great right out of the box. 3.5\/5. This game is amazing, it just has to be your kind of game, and you'll spend hours on it. I personally really love it, because of the ways you can play it. Some days i love soaring through the canyon at 90 km\/h, while sometimes i feel more like getting the highest amount of points in a level. The controls are neat for if you are at school, and can't use a mouse, even though i prefer controller. The community is lit, and the devs are active which makes it a very personal game. And remember, this is the beta we're talking about. Full game coming out tomorrow ^-^10\/10 would recommend. a roguelike skate 3 multiplayer mountain bike game. ITS AWESOME 8\/8. It's DiRT Rally but with bicycles and stunts.. I was definitely skeptical on the roguelite elements at first, and admittedly they are a bit annoying in that you can't really replay tracks unless you've got the seed handy, but otherwise the gameplay is solid and intuitive. Haven't really delved into the multiplayer yet, not sure how much it will really add, but I highly recommend it to anyone who likes high speeds, big air and drum'n'bass music (honestly wasn't much of a fan of the music until this game, really gives the experience a unique feeling).
